Finnish Historical Society
We designed and implemented a comprehensive renewal for the Finnish Historical Society (Suomen Historiallinen Seura), covering a new visual identity, logo, and website. At the heart of the project was the integration of the Society’s web presence with Agricola, a key Finnish portal for historical information, into a modern and functional whole.
The project brought together two separate websites into one clear, user-oriented online service that serves both researchers and a broader audience interested in history. The main goals of the redesign were to clarify the site structure, update content, improve accessibility, and enhance mobile usability. Some outdated content was archived, and the overall site architecture was reorganized to meet the current needs of both users and the Society.
Previously, the Finnish Historical Society lacked a consistent visual identity. We created a modern and distinctive brand identity that functions seamlessly across digital and print media. The new logo builds upon the original hourglass concept but updates its design language to suit contemporary visual communication. Its form draws inspiration from ancient Finnish cave paintings, adding depth and cultural richness to the Society’s renewed identity.
Working with Muuks was an excellent experience, and the new web portal turned out both impressive and functional. Project management was efficient, systematic, and responsible. We are also grateful for the flexibility, for listening to our wishes, and for bringing new ideas to the table. Thank you for making a project that initially felt challenging so much easier for us!
